Bringing together seven students from across the world, the #studentbedroomoftomorrow furthered research, explored concepts, and defined wellbeing-centric solutions for living. Strategizing tactics on a global scale to elevate student happiness and success, 4240, in partnership with Global Student Accommodation (GSA), created the Inaugural Design Workshop Challenge—a hackathon of sorts, for The Student Bedroom of Tomorrow.
Taking place from August 26th through the 30th of 2019, the workshop was hosted in GSA’s new student housing property in Barcelona and covered the many dimensions of wellness, designing for well-being, and included meet-n-greets, tours, and activities. Participants worked alongside industry leaders from STUDIOISLE, FAT Properties, One Young World, GSA’s Student Wellbeing Director, GSA’s Interior Designer, and 4240 Architecture before presenting final concepts to a local impact board.
With a vital role in creating tangible solutions that optimize the student experience, the workshop recognized the participants as leaders and pioneers in the space, equipping them with industry education, guidelines for technical standards for student residences of the future, 3D design illustrations, and worldly inspiration to bring back to their communities. Since the places we live form part of the foundation of our well-being, the way that we design buildings and how we operate within them has a direct impact on our physical and mental health, memory, cognition and happiness—all of which are crucial considerations for student success. We believe that a well-functioning, purpose-built environment is fundamental to student well-being and success, starting with the bedroom as a building-block.
